Since time immemorial, African people sought and discovered power from lifting up their eyes and digging their hands into the Earth. THE ANTIQUE BLACKS is an exploration and expression of what was found in that dirt. The 5 elements of earth, air, fire, water, and spirit are the building blocks of Black Liberation, just as they are the fundamental elements of the material world. THE ANTIQUE BLACKS is a celebration of the medicines, ecstatic meditations, trafficking with spirits, and the primordial alchemy that has travelled with Black people across the waters and through time, kept safe in the oral traditions and genetic memory of our Diaspora. Dogon Krigga explains through their creations how we bridge the gap between humans and our gods, join their discussions, and offer our own input through the practices of divination. This collection of digital collages and installations is the culmination of months and years of intensive study into the mysteries of Hoodoo Conjure and the traditional religions of the African Diaspora.
Dogon Krigga expresses magick with the use of pixel and paper. Known as “the keeper of the crossroads between magick and mixed media”, Dogon incorporates divine mysteries, transcribed over time throughout their ancestors’ experiences to connect Black people to the future and the past. Dogon immortalizes modern and ancient traditions, wisdom, and theory into majestic and whimsical digital and mixed media collages that venerate those that came before, those that will come, and those that exist outside of time. Dogon Krigga uses their experiences, techniques, and knowledge as a graphic designer and practitioner of Hoodoo, Palo, and Afrofuturism to illuminate the spiritual paths and possibilities for all whom receive their creations.
