October 27 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm| $15 – $20
Love Me or Leave Me is a stage production that focuses on the effects of drug addiction, mental abuse, and domestic violence in three couples’ romantic relationships.
Each romantic couple’s partner has an addiction problem with either legal or illegal substances that they are hiding from their significant partner. The protagonist in each relationship appears to be the victim. However, unknowingly, they are enabling their partners to continue destructive behavior because they are suffering from a form of addiction/dependency. That addiction is the need and desire to be loved.
The play centers around one of the lead characters, Shayla. She is the oldest daughter of Tamea, whose life is in turmoil due to years of emotional neglect by her mother and playing surrogate mom to her 5 siblings. Desiring the need to escape her inner turmoil, Shayla experiments with drugs and meets the volatile Glen. He gives her the newness and excitement of young love. However, he has a dangerous edge and troublesome past that is driving a deeper wedge between mother and daughter.
The parallel to Shayla’s story is family friend Jackie Praylow. Jackie is a hard-working, loving, and kind person who has had her share of bad relationships. Tired of the dating scene, she throws herself entirely into getting her degree to further her career goal. Unknown to Jackie, love in the form of Warren Johnson is about to overtake her in a world-wind romance. Believing she has finally met the man of her dreams, Jackie throws caution to the wind and devotes herself wholeheartedly into her new relationship.
Both Shayla and Jackie unknowingly enter into a world that will challenge their self- esteem and their lives as they struggle to save and love the men they have given their hearts and lives to.
Rounding out the characters are Keith Richards and Sandi Harrison. Keith, a retired detective, has found love later in life with a much younger woman. Sandi appears to be a woman with a bright future. However, she and Keith are trying to control and hide a situation which will shock those who get close to them.
Three people affected by significant partners with drug dependency that will have them asking do they want their partners to love them or leave them.
