In this workshop we will explore movement in relation to other people and how to connect with other dancers. Partnered improvisation offers an excellent source of inspiration, playfulness, collaboration, and creativity. We will learn how to improvise a movement piece as a conversation between two people without planning or speaking ahead of time. We will also consider what it means to have your own identity and “voice” while also listening to and sharing someone else’s. Partnered improvisation gives us a window into our own tendencies toward over-speaking or over-listening as movers and allows us to find a greater balance. Partnered improvisation is also an important foundation in developing group improvisation skills.
